What the native app does that the browser cannot

Exclusive audio focus. SMS, calls, and notification sounds are blocked during your session.

Background playback. Audio continues when the screen locks — the entire 36-minute session, not just 30 seconds.

Lock-screen controls. Play/pause from your lock screen, headphones, or Bluetooth car system.

No App Store fees. No 30% Google cut, no review process — same one-time purchase model as the web.

Why an APK and not Google Play?

The Google Play approval process can take weeks and Google takes 30% of every purchase forever. VōxSōma is built by one person — that 30% would either come out of the audio quality budget or be passed on to you. Sideloading keeps the price low and the audio engineering uncompromised.

Your purchase, recovery, and updates all happen through voxsoma.com. The app is a thin native wrapper that gives the web audio engine the system-level audio focus it deserves.

How updates work

Open the app — it checks voxsoma.com for new audio sessions automatically. The audio engine, library, and your recordings live on voxsoma.com (synced to your device); the native wrapper itself rarely needs updating. When it does, you'll get a notice with a fresh APK link.

Troubleshooting

Download starts but the file is corrupted

This is almost always a Chrome cache issue. Open Chrome → Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data → "Cached images and files" only, last hour. Re-download.

"App not installed" after tapping the APK

Usually means a previous version is installed with a different signing key. Uninstall the existing VōxSōma app first, then re-install.

Audio plays but pauses when I switch apps

Open Android Settings → Apps → VōxSōma → Battery → "Unrestricted". Without this, Android may aggressively kill background audio.

Privacy & permissions

The Android app requests these permissions:

RECORD_AUDIO — only when you record your 7 affirmations. Audio never leaves your device.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE / MEDIA_PLAYBACK — to keep audio playing while screen is locked.
MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS — to claim exclusive audio focus and silence other notification sounds during a session.
WAKE_LOCK — to keep audio playing without the CPU sleeping mid-session.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS — for the persistent "VōxSōma playing" notification (so Android knows it's a media app and respects the foreground service).
